He didn't go to Marquette as a McDonalds All-American (I don't believe) and wasn't lights out and a huge star until late in his college career.
So, how much did Tom Crean aid in his arrival as one of NBAs best, or was this talent that just wasn't seen before?
He only actually played two years for Crean. His freshman year he was ineligible, and then he led the team in scoring during his sophomore and junior seasons. I have a feeling that had he played his freshman year, people might have been more familiar with him.

Crean was instrumental in Wade's game. I was big on Wade in HS when I scouted him. I told Darrin Horn, then an assistant coach under Crean at Marquette about Travis Diener and Dwayne Wade.
People were not talking much about Wade then because he had academic issues. He also had a light turn on his freshman year and he just matured physically and it all clicked.
Crean runs a LOT of pro style set offense plays. That is why Wade was prepared to play in the NBA as a Rookie.
